Welcome to “Holy Nemesis,” where exploration of Scripture leads us to wrestle with what God might be saying to us. Each week, one of the Scripture texts for the upcoming Sabbath will be explored, led by clergy from the greater Stamford, CT area.
Returning to the home he had fled many years before after stealing his brother’s birthright and his father’s blessing, Jacob wrestles all night long with a “Holy Nemesis” who ultimately blesses him and changes his name to “Israel,” a name that means “he wrestles with God.” As we wrestle with God’s word, may we also be blessed!
He struggled with the messenger and survived; he wept and sought their favor;
he met them at Bethel, and there he spoke with God. — Hosea 12:4
